Tinubu’s daughter, Iyaloja General of Lagos, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo has ordered the shutdown of popular hub, Computer village, Ikeja Lagos.
She gave the directive on Friday.
Her grievance is the refusal of businessmen in that market to pay the 1k daily levy imposed on them.
According to what I heard, she gave the Iyalaoja of Computer Village target a hefty target of daily 5 million naira remittance.
So the woman went to work with her team and after their calculation, they found out that for them to meet the target given to them by their boss, each trader at Otigba market, now known as Computer village needs to pay at least 1,000 naira daily to be able to reach the 5 million naira daily given to them by the Iyaloja General of Lagos, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo which is to be remitted to her daily.
So the traders who just opened their shop last month after 6 weeks of Lockdown were told about the 1,000 daily levies last week and the announcement was greeted by the angry traders with resistance and blatant refusal to pay the levy.
Some shop owners who spoke to me said they will never submit to Tinubu’s daughter authority.
They wonder how Folasade Tinubu- Ojo will want to wield her influence in a hub where she has no shop. They revealed that leadership in the market is based on the democratic election and challenged her to put up a candidate when elections are due.
Those traders also told me that this time around, they will fight to the finish as they are ready for her and ready to take the battle to her doorstep. Sources affirmed that the relevant association may go to court stop this impunity by the Iyaloja General of Lagos.
Miffed by the audacity of the traders to challenge her almighty decision which nobody challenges except God, Iyaloja General of Lagos, Folashade Tinubu-Ojo sent street urchins known as Area boys to close the market on Friday.
According to eyewitnesses that visited Otigba market on Friday, all the shops inside the IT hub were under lock and key, no business was ongoing with the situation very tense. Sources informed me that the closure of the market will likely persist in the coming days until the stubborn protesting traders agree to her demand.
Last year, members of the Computer Village protested Iyaloja’s decision to impose herself on them. Folashade Tinubu-Ojo who addressed the issue said the protesters were ill-informed.
“According to our constitution, I can choose anybody from any local government in the state to head the market, all the Iyaloja and Babaloja in all the Lagos markets are my representatives in the market where they operate.
“Kindly educate them that phones, handsets, computers are commodities. They cannot tell us they are not pepper sellers, everybody cannot be textile dealers; they can’t tell us that the computer village will be exonerated from other markets. We have the right to choose for them Iyaloja and Babaloja.
“Those people protesting never approached me to complain. They don’t have the initiative that the person leading the protest has finished his tenure and wants to remain in power…
“Computer village is not just an ICT hub, there are a lot of commodities being sold there; nobody can say it is wrong to select a babaloja and iyaloja for the market. Those that have been selected were not selected because they are Yoruba, in some of our markets in Lagos we have Igbos that were selected as market leaders,” Tinubu-Ojo said.
