The president of the eight Senate, Bukola Saraki, has finally revealed why he kept mute and refused to challenge the results of the 2019 presidential election.

The former Senate boss said that he maintained silence for peace to reign, adding that “the lives of our people, the stability of our democracy and the peace of the society are more important than our personal interest or the inflated egos of the leaders.

”Saraki revealed that after the elections, he sent messages to his supporters to accept the results and the newly elected officials in good faith for the sake of
Nigeria’s democracy since according to him, an election not a do or die affair.

In his advice to the presidency and the National Assembly ahead of the Edo and Ondo governorship elections, Saraki urged President Muhammadu Buhari to inform the National Assembly to implement electoral reforms that will entrench the tenets of democracy.

He stated: “Led by President Muhammadu Buhari, we can ensure that these two elections signpost his desire to leave for Nigeria and Africa a legacy of true democracy and clean electoral process.

  1. “The President must put his feet down and ensure that the security agencies will, and must, not be misused to influence the results of the elections in Edo and Ondo states.” He added.
