The day I knew I can’t bow to any form of peer pressure was the day our church invited a guest preacher from another church.
It happened to be that the woman was revered by top pastors and she was preaching very well until it took a turn I didn’t like. 🙄.
Mummy pastor told us that God was present in our midst and he wanted to bless the youth.
We were happy. I was happy because I needed the blessing but it didn’t end there.
” There is always a sacrifice attached to every blessing, even in the Bible, Jesus had to sacrifice himself on the cross for us to get the blessing of forgiveness of sins ” she preached. Now I was feeling uncomfortable.
Next was ” First 10 youth to rush down here with 50,000 will receive a mighty blessing from our Lord, for his presence is here ” ah. Mogbe. Na so? I whispered “God wan dey do partial o, and you know say your boy no get reach that amount. God why? ” 😔.
Preacher asked for first 10 but those that came out were up to 20. If men were God, some of us for no collect any blessing at all.
She changed tactics and asked all the remaining youth to stand up. We stood up and she started the countdown of blessings from 40k, 30k, 20k, 10k, to #5,000.. The more youth kept rushing out, the more those of us standing kept reducing. 😂.
We were up to 6 or so standing and I had vowed in my heart that even if she mentioned #200 I will not go out. The public ridiculing was getting to me somehow 😢.
She prayed for those that went out for 5,000, looked at us ( broke ass christains ) sighed and took pity on our pocket. She said :
” The blessing of God is sufficient for his children, if you have 1,000 to give God, come out nowwwww for your blessing.”
My people, I was the last man standing. 😂. Seeing that I was still standing she said ” even if you don’t have now, come forth and pledge and the Lord will bless you ”
I have noticed the energy she used in praying for those for 50k was reducing, as the money and pledge was reducing, the prayer and energy was reducing too. Na then I know say no be small matter.
Last last sha, all eyes were on me. 😢. Shame try to come at first but the thespian and over kaku In me said No! I act drama in this big church, on this altar, facing thousands so being shy got nothing on me. Kelvin keep your money give not out of shame but out of love.
My friends in church were laughing already because they knew that Kelvin was standing up deliberatly, Haba, even if I no get 50k to give God for blessing, Kelvin suppose get 1k to give God na. But no. Na intentional something be this.
Our guest preacher later gave up when she announce I make #500 pledge to God and she saw me still standing like Olumo rock. My pastor looked at me and sighed. 😂.
My people, you can’t buy God’s blessing with cash. Don’t be deceived, sowing a seed from your heart is different from being forced, coerced, manipulated to part with your money for exchange of blessing.
I know giving is receiving and some form of sacrifice attracts positive result but not when you are coerced and manipulated. It must come from within, naturally without being forced.
If men were Gods, you and I will bid for breath
